This large work is especially important because, during the period 1640-1793, the old town of Braintree encompassed the large area that became the modern towns of Braintree, Quincy (1792), Randolph (1793), and Holbrook (1872). This work includes verbatim transcriptions of the town meeting records of the births, marriages, and death records in the town books. The former mention large numbers of residents in conjunction with road construction, land grants, elections to town offices, etc., while the vital records which occupy about 260 pages are essential data for reconstructing the families which lived in these towns. There are very complete indexes to people, places, and subjects.
