Selected and Arranged by Grace Beauchamp Lodder of the Syracuse Public Library with an appendix, Manlius, New York Obituaries and Marriages in the early 1800s, Supplied by H. C. Durston, Village Historian, Manlius, New York
This work contains early 1800s marriages from various newspapers in Auburn, Onondaga Hill, Onondaga Hollow, Skaneateles, and Syracuse, which covered the counties of Cayuga, Cortland, Madison, Onondaga, and Oswego. Obituaries and marriages from newspapers in Manlius, a small village east of Syracuse, were compiled separately and are included in an appendix. These records help fill the tremendous gap existing in New York State prior to the time the state required recordation of births, deaths and marriages. Names of principal parties are in alphabetical order; secondary names are indexed. A map and a geographical locator guide are useful for those not familiar with places in the state of New York.
