Three years after publishing The Old Free State, the author produced this work, which is a rich store of genealogical information on south-central Virginia. It includes a list of vestrymen and ministers, genealogical information on 63 families, chapters devoted to the Reverend James Craig and the Reverend John Cameron of Cumberland Parish, and a map showing the original extent of Cumberland Parish in 1746. Also included are the Reverend John Cameron’s marriage registers of Bristol (1784–1793), Nottoway (1794–1795), and Cumberland (1796–1815) Parishes as well as the baptism and funeral register of Cumberland (1815) Parish. The every-name and place index contains about 5,000 entries.
