The Selectmen of Boston met frequently to take care of the town business. The Town Clerk faithfully recorded the minutes of these meetings, rich with historical and genealogical information. The largely routine business covered in each meeting provides important genealogical data such as the participants in the “General Walk or Visitation” of the town, the inspectors of the schools, names of those requesting liquor licenses and building permits, smallpox victims and “Strangers.” These minutes contain all of the town business for the years 1736–1775. The events are listed in alphabetical order according to the name of the person involved.
