This work was undertaken by the author, a descendent of one of the first settlers, in the west part of Simsbury, now Canton, for the collection and preservation of facts and incidents connected with the first settlers of the town. His short sketches include about one hundred and eighty-five families. The author has herein preserved significant genealogical material, ranging from parents’ names, second wives’ names, maiden names, children's names, dates of birth and death, cause of death, site of marriage, location of death/burial, migration of different people and families from town to town, particular physical attributes, occupations, details of the family home or estate, and religious habits of members of this community. It is arranged according to male surnames. An Introductory and Commendatory Notice by Rev. J. Burt and a surname index add to the value of this work.
