This genealogy presents nine generations in the male line of descent from Thomas Derby of Stow, Massachusetts. Little reliable data exists for Thomas Derby prior to 1684, when Thomas removed from Concord, Massachusetts to Stow. He served under Capt. Joseph Sill as a Narragansett soldier in King Philip's War (1676). Thomas Darby was granted a lot in Stow, June 17, 1684; Thomas Daby was elected as a deacon of the Stow Church, 1706. He is known to have fathered seven children before the death of his wife, Mary, in 1727. Thomas is believed to have died before December 29, 1749. His descendants are traced through the families of his two sons, John (b. 1687) and Robert (d. 1759). A section of the text is devoted to nineteen Derby families not conclusively placed in the lines discussed. The original index of full names has been retained for this edition.
