The following is a portion of a series of abstracts of the deeds of Edgecombe County, North Carolina. The volume to follow contains the original Deed Book D, and Deed Books 2 and 3.
Note the various indices. Under the "Miscellaneous Index," you will find headings for Granville Grants, patents, and State Grants. A patent is a land grant before 1748; a Granville Grant is a proprietary grant through the offices of Lord Granville from 1748 - 1763; state grants begin with the end of royal rule in 1777.
