The Deeds of Halifax County, North Carolina, 1811-1817

$2400

This is the seventh book of abstracts of Halifax County's deeds.  The volume includes all of Deed Book 22 and Deed Book 23 (1811 - 1817).

It may be helpful to note that in the decade 1810 - 1820, Halifax County's population is supposed to have decreased by half.  You will find the obvious references to Georgia, Tennessee and South Carolina, the occasional reference to Mississippi.  Their descendants, of course did not "stay put" either.  Halifax County became on of the "cradle" counties of further migration.

The deed books are late copies of original deed books that were then destroyed.  The copyist(s) did not in all cases read the earlier handwriting well.

You will find the following indexes:  Full Name, Women's Christian Name, Slave Name, Place Name, and a Miscellaneous Index.
