Northampton County is one of the more genealogical significant counties. Many families settled in Northampton County for a few years, a generation, or more, before moving on into other parts of the North Carolina coastal plain region, the North Carolina Piedmont region, or into South Carolina, Tennessee, or other states. Northampton County became a bridge between the older settlements of Virginia and the newer ones to the south and west.
Northampton County was formed in 1741 from the parent county of Bertie, and was one of the parents of Hertford County formed in 1759.
This work begins at the date of 1759 with Deed Book 3 and continues through 1774 and Deed Book 5. You will find nearly 1300 transactions included, and three indexes with more than a total of 12,000 entires.
There are separate indexes for place names and slaves. The "Place name and Other Index" includes geographical references and other items which are not proper names.
