The prominent Marylanders featured in this book were mainly from Garrett, Allegany, Washington and Frederick Counties, in the panhandle region of western Maryland. They had ties to Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia, as well as to the rest of Maryland. Many of these families were of German origin. The presidential biographies go into greater detail, and cover Washington through McKinley. Some information about each president's early life, parents, residence, spouses and children is provided.
