The War Shipping Administrator was also the Chairman of the Maritime Commission. "This is a preliminary inventory of the materials in Record Group 248, Records of the War Shipping Administration. The records of the WSA transferred to the National Archives before January 1, 1951, are described and listed in this inventory. Records retained by the Maritime Administration of the Department of Commerce are described in Appendix A of this inventory." Appendix B lists the subject headings of the records of Vice Admiral A. P. Fairfield; Appendix C lists the subject headings of the records of Fred Searls; and Appendix D is the list of Interallied and Interdepartmental Committees and Boards in which the Ship Requirements Division was interested.
