Learn more about your ancestors from these deed book entries recorded between February 1835 and March 1840. When a property transaction was finalized, the legal documents were returned to court and ordered to be recorded in the deed book. Sometimes the transactions were not recorded for months or even years after the event took place. Deed book entries contain the names of the parties involved, date of the transaction, names of adjoining neighbors and witnesses, and location and description of the property, which often comprised livestock, household goods, and slaves as well as land. This volume lists the entries in original page order. The useful index includes thousands of old Virginia names.
