This is a genealogy of a principal branch of the Marsden family of Lancashire, England, which migrated to Baltimore, Maryland, early in the nineteenth century. The preparation of this slender volume involved extensive research into English and American records at the Enoch Pratt Library, the Peabody Institute, Baltimore City and County court houses, and the Maryland Historical Society in Baltimore; the Maryland Hall of Records in Annapolis, Maryland; The National Archives in Washington, D.C.; and various sources in other states and overseas; as well as correspondence and discussions with many descendants of this family line.A brief look at the Marsdens in England is followed by an examination of early Marsden ancestors: Evan Marsden, Sr. (founder of this line), William Marsden (first immigrant to America), and James T. Marsden (son of William Marsden). Biographical notes for the children of James T. Marsden, a summary chart of early Marsdens, genealogical tables of the descendants of James T. Marsden, James Marsden Earp, and Elias Marsden are all included. A reference list, an index to Marsdens, and an index to other surnames augment the text.
