These two volumes, filled with data from backyard gravestones and forgotten family plots, as well as established cemeteries, are a genealogist's dream find. Originally published in 1967 they include information from hundreds of cemeteries in Dickson County, Tennessee. The entries are arranged alphabetically and give directions to each site and a brief description of the burial ground. The locales may contain one grave, or several thousand, and because many graves were unmarked all extant newspapers for a period ending in 1930 were searched for obituaries of deceased persons to supplement the tombstone inscriptions. Between them, these volumes also contain a brief historical sketch of Dickson County, a list of Dickson County Obituaries from 1882 to 1923, 1850 and 1860 mortality schedules, family bible records, and lists of some Civil War and World War I and II mortalities. The data is presented in a straightforward, simple format that is easy to research or browse. All pertinent information on the stones is listed, questionable or confusing information is underscored, and markers bearing more than one name are noted with an asterisk. Both volumes are enhanced with an every name index to facilitate the search for family connections.
