Register of Marriages and Baptisms performed by Rev. John Cuthbertson, 1751-1791

$27.50

When Reverend John Cuthbertson landed in America from Scotland he was the first Reformed Presbyterian missionary to set foot in the New World. He traveled mostly on horseback, but when necessary he sailed, rowed or walked on the ice over the Susquehanna and other streams to bring the faith to his fellow Scottish Covenanters. He covered more than seventy thousand miles during his ministry. Reverend Cuthbertson kept a diary that began with his arrival at Newcastle in 1751 and ended shortly before his death in 1791. The diary documented over five thousand different family names, including some who had settled there before 1720. This valuable volume reproduces his personal notations and records of the 600 marriages and over 1,800 baptisms he performed in the course of his life, as well as quotations from the diary, and an index of places visited. This informative source of genealogical data spans forty years and seven states.
