Written around 1801, it is the earliest account of the great sea fights during the Revolutionary War: Bon Homme Richard and Serapis, and it is the only one written by a midshipman, not a senior officer. In addition to being the fullest and earliest account of the sea fights, it is full of interesting details of his subsequent experiences in France, and as a privateersman on several different vessels. This work also includes a biographical sketch of the life and character of John Paul Jones, Esq. A portrait of the author, a new full name index and large print make this book even more appealing and easier to read.
