A gazetteer is fundamentally a geographical dictionary which lists geographical names in alphabetical order. Mr. Gordon, an eminent historian, did laborious research of public records and had personal contact with officials of every county in an effort to make this book as complete and accurate as possible. Statistical tables for each county listing all townships existing in 1832 with population schedules and the number of taxable for each township are also included. A list of all the post offices in the state along with the name of the postmaster concludes this work, offering valuable information to genealogists, historians, and geographers.
