This comprehensive work is divided into two parts. The gazetteer covers the historical aspects of Tioga County. About 70 pages are given over to a general history of the county, the settlement going through the late 1800's. Following this are town histories covering: Barton, Berkshire, Candor, Newark Valley, Nichols, Oswego, Richford, Spencer, and Tioga. Several chapters, or parts thereof, are written by contributing authors. A new, every-name index gives researchers easy access to nearly 10,000 people listed in the historical section. The directory covers the years 1887-1888, providing the name of the individual or firm (in alphabetical order), address, and business or occupation. This section is organized by town.
