Gleanings from the Christian Advocate and Journal and Zion’s Herald September 1827-August 1831 - Dolores Haller and Marilyn Robinson. This volume offers a huge collection of genealogical data from an obscure source. The Christian Advocate and Journal and Zion’s Herald newspaper was published in New York by the Methodist Episcopal Church from September 1827 through August 1831. It covered the whole country as then settled, but most of the news was from the northeast, especially New York State. The data abstracted includes marriage and death notices, lists of people who received books from the church office, lists of ministers and their stations, and incidental items from news stories, letters to the editor, and other articles. Chapters include: Preacher Stations, Names and Places, Names and Places from Book Lists, Marriages, Deaths, and Gleanings. A surname index completes this work.
