Maryland Freedom Papers, Volume 3: Maryland Colonization Society Manumission Book, 1832-1860

$28.00

The formation of the American Colonization Society, which was a major effort to convert the concept of colonization to a reality, led to the development of state auxiliaries such as the Maryland Colonization Society. The Maryland Colonization Society maintained a record book in which manumissions throughout the state of Maryland were recorded. Items recorded include the name, age, and employment of manumitted slaves; the name of the grantor of freedom; any conditions attached to the grant; and the date the manumission was recorded. An every-name index adds to the value of this work. The author is the 2002 James Dent Walker Award Winner.
