Expands considerably on John Goodwin Locke's definitive early work on the family, The Book of the Lockes, published in 1850. The author has extended the male lines of descent from William Locke (b. 1628) through ten generations, covering some 1,386 known male descendants catalogued using the Modified Register System. Although complete female lines have been excluded, the text contains many illuminating notes on family members outside the direct line of descent. Women are indexed by both maiden and married name, wherever applicable. William Locke, Sr. is the immigrant ancestor of the Locke family studied here. He made the voyage to America with relatives on the ship Planter, embarking March 22, 1634. He settled in Woburn, Middlesex, Massachusetts, and wed Mary Clarke (b. 1640) in 1655. Between 1657 and 1681, she bore nine children and died July 18, 1715. William died in Woburn on June 16, 1720, at the age of 91.
