A selection of Donald Gregory’s material as well as documents from other sources comprise this volume (a publication of the Scottish History Society), whose purpose was to make available “some of the original material and recorded tradition on which knowledge of [Highland] history [is] based.” The time period covered herein is 1662–1677 and includes an account on witchcraft; a memorial for John of Fassifern telling the story of his persecution and arrest in 1753; Highland religious conditions; papers relating to Kintyre describing its long history of struggles for control; and extracts from the collection of state papers in the advocates’ library known as the “Denmylne MSS.;” papers relating to public affairs during the reigns of James VI and Charles I; and documents related specifically to the Western Highlands and Islands.
