These records were abstracted from the earliest newspapers published in Cazenovia, New York, indeed among the earliest newspapers published in Madison County, New York. "The original intent in abstracting the records from these newspapers was to present a list of marriages and deaths which occurred in that area of Madison County covered by the newspapers. But as the work progressed additional information was abstracted—runaway wives and apprentices, letters left in post offices, insolvent debtors, and other items of interest. But the reader should be aware that not all names which appeared in these newspapers were abstracted." This volume includes abstracts from the Cazenovia Pilot (1808-c1850), The DeRuyter Gleaner of the 1880s and others. It encompasses the area of Madison, Oneida, Chenango and Onondaga Counties, with scattered notices from other New York counties. A map of Madison County, a Geographical Locator Guide, and full-name index add to the value of this work.
