Manchester Historic Association Collections, Volume 5, 1908

$4300

The Manchester Historic Association was formed in December 1895 to collect and preserve documents and artifacts pertaining to the history of the Manchester area, and to publish historical studies. Early in its history it published a series of volumes of “collections” which contain a great deal of valuable, but relatively unknown, historical and genealogical material. Those collections were a mixture of short articles, papers read before the meetings of the society, and extensive transcriptions of original documents. They were only published in small numbers primarily as a quarterly membership periodical and hence are difficult to find today.

Heritage Books is pleased to reprint these volumes in cooperation with the society. New name indexes have been added where needed which will make the reprints more useful for researchers than the original volumes.

Volume V, 1908: Early records of Londonderry, Windham and Derry, N.H., 1719–1762, Volume 1. Londonderry, N.H. was founded in 1719 by a group of Scotch-Irish immigrants from around Londonderry, Ireland. The town prospered, and for a time challenged Portsmouth as the leading town in the state. Windham was set off from Londonderry in February 1741/2, and Derry in July 1827. This volume contains verbatim transcriptions of the political records of Londonderry, i.e., records of town meetings, elections of town officers, jury selections, etc. Thus it names many residents showing when they were resident in the town. The following volume contains the land grants by the town, while the vital statistics were published separately in Vital Statistics of Londonderry, New Hampshire by Daniel Gage Annis, also available from Heritage Books.
