A Brief History of the North Congregational Church, Amherst Massachusetts - North Congregational Church. This detailed history of the North Congregational Church paints a portrait of the community and its citizens, and is a rich source of names, dates and interesting tidbits. "June 8, 1826 fifty-nine persons met in North Amherst and formed an organization called 'The Congregational Union Society of Amherst.'" They discussed building a Meeting House and its location. The labor and materials were contributed; stones for the foundation were drawn by yokes of oxen. Rev. Mr. Perkins placed a box (contents unknown) in the cornerstone of the church.

This volume opens with a list of pastors and deacons of the church, and superintendents of Sunday school, along with their dates of service. A brief history precedes the Centennial Day program, which is followed by: Glimpses of a Century of Church Music by Mrs. F. S. Cooley; Neighbors of North Amherst Church in Amherst by John M. Tyler; and, Economic Facts of a Century Ago by F. S. Cooley. A chronologically arranged list of members (1826-1927) completes this work.
