What is now Newark, New Jersey was first settled in 1666 by people from Milford, Guilford, and Branford in Connecticut. This volume contains a transcription of the town records for its first 170 years, and includes a wealth of information of interest to the genealogist and local historian. The volume consists primarily of minutes of the town meetings and of land grants, both of which are very important in that they name great numbers of residents. In the early years, in particular, there are numerous lists of residents made in conjunction with divisions of the common lands.
