This book is a research tool for locating the men and women of Washington County, Maryland, who served in the military; rendered material aid to the army or navy; took the Oath of Allegiance and Fidelity; served in an office or on a committee at the town, county, or state level; or in some way contributed and supported the fight for freedom during the Revolutionary War. Genealogical information is included for most of the approximately 4,000 persons named in this volume: places of birth, death, and marriage; names of spouses, children, and other relatives; physical descriptions; and occupations; as well as information gleaned from newspapers, church records, military lists, pension files, probate records, equity cases, and other court records. The author used many primary and secondary sources.
