Alexandria, Virginia, 1808 Census: (Wards 1, 2, 3, and 4)

$16.50

In addition to the Federal census, the city of Alexandria created a number of other enumerations. This one was taken for the four wards of the city, between January and February 1808. This transcript preserves not only the original format, but the data for all the following columns: Names of House Keepers, Occupations, White Males Above the Age of 16, All Other White Persons, Free Males of Colour Above the Age of 16, All Other Free Persons of Colour, Slaves, Total, No. of Stories, No. of Bucketts, and Remarks. Of particular interest is that the names for males over the age of 16 are given, and the number of fire buckets required corresponds to the number of the stories in which the enumerated persons reside.
