This history describes events from the Puritan's arrival through the Civil War and covers such topics as dealings with the Indians, building the first meeting house, land speculation, Gov. Carteret's abduction and trial, war time, the College of New Jersey in Newark, and the 200th and 250th anniversaries. There are several dozen illustrations of people, places, and old time furnishings. The author was Historian General of the Sons of the American Revolution, and also wrote a four volume history of the Oranges.
