Early Families of Raymond, Maine - Robert L. Taylor. Raymond, Maine, is located about twenty-five miles north of Portland. This alphabetical listing of hundreds of families contains information not only on Raymond but also on Casco families prior to 1841 when the two towns separated. Each family entry consists of a paragraph about the husband and wife, followed by a list of their children. Typical information includes dates and places of birth and death, name of cemetery, and sometimes the names of parents. Children are presented in birth order, with date and place of birth, death and marriage, and the names and places of origin of their spouses. Birth records were taken from a large old ledger book that was saved from a fire in which most of the other town and vital records were destroyed. Marriage dates when given were obtained either from Cumberland County marriage records or from marriage records found in the old Raymond Hall. A few marriages have been taken from old newspaper listings. Death records of individual children were sometimes used as a source of information on their parents.
