America’s German Heritage Bicentennial Minutes

“In January, 1975 a radio program, ‘German-American Bicentennial Minutes,’ was first broadcast, on the Over-the-Rhine Showcase program of Heinz Probst, in Greater Cincinnati. It was an instant success and was soon broadcast by radio stations across the country: Minneapolis/St. Paul, Mn.; Milwaukee, Wis.; Chicago, Ill.; Cleveland, Ohio; Philadelphia, Pa.; Benton Harbor, Mich.; and in many other communities, as far away as Vancouver, British Columbia. Articles appeared in the German-American press about the ‘Minutes.’ Soon there was an avalanche of requests for the ‘Minutes’ in book form.” The German-American National Congress-Cleveland Chapter made the book possible.

The purpose of this history is to illuminate some of the essential facts of German-American history, concentrating on significant dates, facts, and events. Poetry, a wealth of portraits, illustrations, and vintage photographs enhance the text.
