Sullivan County, Tennessee was officially formed by the North Carolina General Assembly in 1779, as what is currently considered Upper East Tennessee and was formerly referred to as Washington County, North Carolina. The county was named after Major General John Sullivan, a New Hampshire patriot who played a crucial role in the American Revolution.

This work offers a complete collection of deeds from Sullivan County documented during the years 1802–1807. The deeds provide valuable information including the names of the grantor and grantee, date, amount, price, and description of land, and witnesses. This volume contains approximately 435 deeds, along with a full-name index at the close of this work.
