Tennesseans in the Cherokee Wars

In 1838, the governors of Tennessee, North Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama called up militia units to escort the Cherokee from various areas to a fort where they could be protected from violent settlers. 2,000 U.S. troops were commanded to aid in the relocation of the Native Americans. This publication opens with a brief military background of General William Lauderdale, a significant officer who used knowledge gained from spies to establish a fort on the New River, followed by an alphabetical list of soldiers, giving the name, rank, and unit in which he served.
