The German Element Of The Shenandoah Valley of Virginia - John W. Wayland.
This valley includes the counties of Augusta, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Page, Warren, Frederick, and Clarke of VA, and the counties of Berkeley, and Jefferson of WV. The majority of Germans immigrants came to the valley from MD and PA prior to 1800, with a few from NJ, NY, NC, and eastern VA. A geographical outline of the valley is followed by a brief account of early exploration, and “The Germans of the Shenandoah Valley: Whence They Came; Why; and When”.
