Easton was acquired in 1668 by Thomas Leonard (ancestor of the author), the clerk of the Taunton North Purchase Company, in the name of 52 other Taunton men and himself from the Plymouth Court for the sum of 100 pounds. The 50 square mile purchase also included most of Mansfield and part of Norton. In 1722, the East precinct of Norton was recognized, and in 1725 the area was incorporated as the Town of Easton.
