Lafayette County, located in the west central portion of Missouri, was created in 1823 and named for Gilbert du Motier, the Marquis de la Fayette. In these pages you will find a brief history of the county and abstracts from Deed Books "A" and "B" 1821-1825 which are actually labeled "Lillard" County which was formed in 1820 and broken up to form Lafayette, Jackson, Cass, Johnson, Henry, St. Clair and parts of Bates and Benton Counties.
