Chariton County, located in the middle of Missouri on the Chariton River, was created on the 16th of November 1820 out of lands taken from Howard County. Included in this set of records will be found a brief history of the county, the tax list of 1821, the Patrons of Atlas of 1876 and the Death Register, 1883-1887. These records give names for the area from early until almost the beginning of the 20th century.
