Granville County, North Carolina was created in 1746 from Edgecombe County and is located in the northeastern section of the state on the Virginia state line.  It was named for John Carteret, Earl of Granville.

This 1755 tax list covers all of the present counties of Granville, Franklin, Warren and Vance and is the oldest of the extant tax lists for the county and gives the number of white, black males and black females in a household.
