Tipton County, located on the Mississippi River in west Tennessee was created in 1823 from the lands of the Western District obtained from a treaty with the local Native American. The time period of 1840 until 1860 was the time of fastest growth for the area along the Mississippi River as trade was beginning to move up and down the river.
