Clay County, Tennessee Deed Records

$5.00

Clay County, located in Middle Tennessee on the Kentucky border, was created in 1870 from Overton and Jackson Counties of Tennessee and named for Henry Clay, a member of the United States Senate from Kentucky. Henry Clay also served a the Secretary of State for the United States in the 19th century. These deeds are primarily deeds NOT taken from the Deed book, but were copies of deeds held in private hands for lands that had been disputed between Kentucky and Tennessee. Many of these were grants in the Kentucky area. Due to the dispute over the line between the two states, it is well advised to researchers to look into Kentucky as well as Tennessee for families in this area.
