Roane County, located in mid-east Tennessee was created in 1801 out of lands that belonged to Knox County. It was named for Governor Archibald Roane who was governor at the time of the creation of the county. These Bible records were collected during the WPA time in Tennessee. The records are given in a brief form and since the original contained over 600 pages with each Bible on a page, this was retyped and checked and therefore, condensed to the present size. The full name index was added at this time that was not in the original. These Bible records are found primarily in the Rock Wood section of the county.
