Coffee County, Tennessee Marriage Records, Volume 1, Book A, 1853-1862

$1550

Coffee County, located in south central portion of middle Tennessee was created on January 8, 1836 from portions of Franklin, Bedford and Warren County. This particular county was named for General John Coffee, a close friend of Andrew Jackson and a hero of the War of 1812 as well as the Creek War. These marriage records are like most of the older ones in Tennessee as they just list the name of the bride and groom with the dates their license was issued and if the records are returned, it will show the name of the official and the date of the wedding. Since most of these records are found in one volume that is in very delicate condition, they are listed by the page of the original record. In some cases, the entry is recorded in multiple places even sometimes more than once on the same page of the book. In former versions of these marriages, the transcriber left out any of those where there was no return of the records, therefore, there is no record of the license in those transcriptions. We record each page just as it is written and leave it up the reader to decide any differences.
