McMinn County, located in the lower portion of east Tennessee, was carved out of the Cherokee Nation in the Hiwassee Purchase in 1819 . It was named for Governor Joseph McMinn. These marriage records include the names of the couple and the official as well as the date the license was issued and the wedding date, if there was a return of the license. Many times, the return was not noted yet the couple was marriage regardless.
