Madison County, Tennessee Guardian Renewal Bonds, 1868-1879

$15.00

Madison County, located in west Tennessee, was created in 1821 on land purchased from the Chickasaw in 1818 and named for President James Madison. These guardian records are some of the most valuable in any county. This is where you will find the parents of orphaned children where the children are under guardianship. The guardians had to report to the county court with regularity. Each guardian was responsible for reporting to the courts the expenses and other items needed for the upkeep and care of each child. In these reports, the parents are named as well as the children, some of which are 18-20 years old even. The guardian takes care of the children until they reach the proper age to be on their own.
