Dickson County, located just west of Nashville and Davidson County in middle Tennessee, was established on 25 October 1803 and named for William Dickson, a physician from Nashville and in the United States Congress. In these marriage records, the first thing you will notice is that the WPA copy of the records have three different index. The original index to the book listed each bride and groom in separate columns. Later a new index was added that merged the two list. Finally, there is an index to the officials given in each marriage. As with most all of the marriage records for Tennessee, you will get the names of the bride/groom and official. The two different dates are usually given, when the license is issued by the court and then when the marriage actually took place.
