Proceedings of the Committees of Safety of Cumberland and Isle of Wight Counties of Virginia, 1775-1776

$1750

The Committees of Safety for these two eastern Virginia counties during this crucial time period mark a time when the militia units were very important in the colonies. A militia unit was composed of local men between the ages of 16-50 who formed the defense of the area as volunteers. At this time, there was very little of a standing army and so the volunteer soldier protected the frontier. This volume details the militia at this time in these two counties.
