Colonial Records of Virginia

$35.00

Jamestown, Virginia began in 1607 and became the first English colony in the new world that lasted until today. The records of this colony in the beginning are great reading and very enlightening as well. From a few settlers in 1607 to thousands with just a few years is exciting. In this volume you will find the records of the First Assembly on 30 July 1619 as well as a listing of those living and dead in 1623 to become the first census naming each man, woman and child for the most part. Included are the names of servants, maids and associates. The Dutch came into the colony later and brought a few slaves that were purchased by the colonist. One of the surprising enterprises of the colony was their silk industry. Every land owner was required to plant so many mulberry trees per acre and by 1668, King Charles II recognized this industry in the colonies.
