Harrison County, Virginia was formed in 1784 from a part of Monongalia County in conformity with an act of the general assembly adopted on June 4th of that year. Located in the north-central part of the state and drained by the West Fork of the Monongahela and its tributaries. It was named for Benjamin Harrison, father of William Henry Harrison, ninth President of the United States and great-grandfather of Benjamin Harrison, twenty-third President.
