The marriages records for this county were issued by the County Ordinary and preserved, though unknown for many years, and were rediscovered in the 1970s during a reorganization of the Ordinary's office. Included in the find was a bundle marked "Marriage Licenses - Some Unrecorded". An Appendix adds a detailed explanation of the marriage requirements for Georgia brides and grooms (The Georgia Legislature passed an act in 1799 making mandatory the securing of a marriage license, or publication of banns, within the state).
