Nelson County, Virginia was created by an act of the General Assembly in 1807. It was carved out of a portion of Amherst County and was named in honor of former Governor and signer of the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Nelson. The author has added unrecorded material which was located by the Virginia Library more than a decade after its initial publication. This consists of an original license register dated 1814-1819 with more than 300 additions.
